Step 1: Hotel Pickup
- Southern Sri Lanka Coastal Area: Your journey begins with a comfortable hotel pickup from the Hiriketiya, Tangalle, Dikwella, Rekawa, Nilwella, or Mawella coastal area. An air-conditioned transfer vehicle collects you at your selected departure time — 03:30 for the morning safari, or 12:00/12:30 for the afternoon option.
Step 2: Arrival at Safari Base & Boarding the Safari Vehicle
- Tissamaharama Safari Office: You arrive at the safari company office in Debarawewa, Tissamaharama. Here you can arrange meals if requested, then transfer into a rugged Toyota Hilux 4x4 safari vehicle — purpose-built for the terrain of Yala National Park.
Step 3: First Game Drive - Golden Hours
- Yala National Park: The first game drive (approximately 06:00–08:00 for the morning departure) takes you deep into the home of the world's densest population of leopards. Marvel at the beauty of the park as you search for Sri Lankan leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, water buffaloes, and an extraordinary array of bird species in their natural habitat.
Step 4: Break at Patanangala Beach
- Patanangala Beach, Yala National Park: After the first game drive, take a refreshing break on Patanangala beach — located inside the park and overlooking the Indian Ocean. Enjoy breakfast in the jeep while taking in breathtaking scenery and ocean views.
Step 5: Second Game Drive
- Yala National Park: The second game drive ventures into different parts of the park, offering another chance to encounter majestic elephants, spotted deer, elusive sloth bears, and many more remarkable wild creatures. Your experienced guide-driver helps maximize every wildlife sighting opportunity.
Step 6: Return to Tissamaharama
- Tissamaharama: After completing both game drives, you exit Yala National Park and return to Tissamaharama by safari vehicle. Here you transfer back into the air-conditioned transfer vehicle for the onward journey.
Step 7: Scenic Transfer to Arugam Bay
- Arugam Bay: The road to Arugam Bay passes near the border of Lahugala Kitulana National Park, where elephants are commonly spotted along the route. Arrive at your destination on the stunning east coast, filled with wonderful wildlife memories and a deep appreciation for Sri Lanka's natural world.
