What's Included
Itinerary
Galle Fort
- Galle Fort: Situated in the bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, this fort was first built in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch in 1668, and finally expanded by the British in 1796. Galle Fort became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Spanning 52 hectares with 272 families living within its walls, it is a living monument featuring 14 bastions, the National Museum, a lighthouse, the Dutch Hospital, the Marine Museum, a clock tower, and a church that showcase an ancient city still very much alive today.
Rumassala (Jungle Beach)
- Rumassala / Jungle Beach: Formerly known as Buona Vista, this scenic spot offers one of the finest coastal views in the region, with a panoramic outlook over the Bay of Galle and its surroundings. The location is steeped in local legend and is home to the beautiful Jungle Beach, one of the most captivating natural attractions in the Rumassala area.
Sea Turtle Conservation Center
- Sea Turtle Conservation Center: This non-profit organization is dedicated to the survival of sea turtles for future generations. Having released more than 100,000 turtles back into the ocean, the center also provides a second chance at life for injured sea turtles. Visitors can learn about all 7 species of sea turtles and even participate in releasing them back to the sea.
Stilt Fishermen
- Stilt Fishermen: Witness one of the most fascinating traditional fishing practices of Sri Lanka. Fishermen perch on a cross-bar called a "petta" tied to a vertical pole fixed into the sand a few meters offshore. From this elevated position, they cast their lines and patiently wait for a catch. Despite its seemingly primitive appearance, this age-old method is an enduring symbol of Sri Lankan coastal culture.
Tea Factory Visit
- Tea Factory: Tea cultivation was introduced to Sri Lanka by James Taylor in 1865 during the British colonial era. Since then, tea has spread across the island, divided into three growing regions based on altitude — low country, mid country, and high country — each producing teas with distinct flavors and characteristics. Visit a local tea factory to learn about the entire process from leaf to cup.
Scenic Beach
- Scenic Beach: End your tour at a beautiful sandy beach, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Complete with a beach bar and fresh seafood spot, this hidden gem offers a perfect, relaxing conclusion to your day of exploration.
