Overview
Discover the wildlife of Hurulu Eco Park on a thrilling 3-hour jeep safari through this ancient biosphere reserve, with a chance to spot Sri Lankan elephants, rare birds, and other fascinating creatures.
Step into the wild at Hurulu Eco Park, a sanctuary nestled within the expansive Hurulu Forest Reserve. This biosphere reserve, recognized since 1977, maintains a steady average temperature of 27-28 degrees Celsius year-round, creating ideal conditions for a rich array of wildlife.
Spanning a section of the larger forest reserve, Hurulu Eco Park shelters an impressive collection of species, including several that are rare or endangered. Among the most iconic residents are the Sri Lankan elephant, the Indian Star Tortoise, Sri Lanka Jungle Fowl, and the elusive Rusty-Spotted Cat.
Elephants, in particular, are a frequent highlight. Known for their strong homing instincts, Sri Lankan elephants translocated more than 100 kilometers away have been documented returning to the Hurulu Reserve. If you choose the evening safari, your chances of witnessing these magnificent giants feeding or bathing along the park paths are especially strong.
The safari lasts approximately 3 hours and travels through the park aboard a private 4x4 jeep, with an experienced driver who doubles as your wildlife tracker. Entrance tickets are included, and a complimentary water bottle is provided for the journey.
