This boat ride offers a deeply relaxing experience as you take in the scenic beauty of Sigiriya and Pidurangala Rocks from the calm waters of the lake. Choose your preferred session — an early morning sunrise or a peaceful evening sunset — to match your travel plans and sense of adventure.
You will board a spacious catamaran with comfortable deck seating for up to six guests. Life jackets are provided for your safety throughout the journey. Your knowledgeable guide will share the rich history of Sigiriya and Pidurangala, including the era of King Kashyapa (473–491 AD) and the ancient monastic activities at Pidurangala, which served as a major temple in the 5th century AD.
As you drift across the water, keep your eyes open for approximately 40 species of water birds. A bird identification guide book is available on board to help you spot and record the species you observe. Binoculars are also provided to enhance your bird watching experience. The on-board snacks add a pleasant touch to this serene outing.
The scenery is truly the star of the show — a breathtaking landscape that makes this a memorable highlight of any Sri Lanka itinerary.

Choose Your Session
- Select between the early morning sunrise session starting at 5:30 a.m. or the peaceful evening sunset session beginning at 4:30 p.m. — whichever best suits your travel itinerary.
- Meet your guide at the designated lake meeting point. Pickup and drop-off are not included, though special arrangements can be made at an additional cost payable on location.
Board the Catamaran
- Step aboard the traditional catamaran — a stable deck platform crafted from two connected canoes, with no motor engine, paddled by an experienced rider.
- Life jackets are provided before departure for your safety. Settle in comfortably on the deck with up to six guests.
Guided Lake Ride with Bird Watching
- Glide across the serene lake while taking in spectacular panoramic views of both Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Pidurangala Rock.
- Your guide will share the fascinating history of these sites, including the reign of King Kashyapa (473–491 AD) and the ancient monastic activities at Pidurangala, which was a major temple in the 5th century AD.
